Boumsong in Lazio link

Lazio have expressed an interest in signing forgotten Juventus defender Jean Alain Boumsong, reports are suggesting.

The Turin-based Tuttosport newspaper claims that the capital club are pondering a move for the Frenchman as they look to replace the frozen out Guglielmo Stendardo.

Boumsong has become a luxury reserve at Juve after Giorgio Chiellini and Nicola Legrottaglie gave the Bianconeri a touch of much needed steel to the centre of their defence.

It’s understood that Boumsong’s availability was discussed when the two clubs held initial talks over a possible swap deal which could see Lorenzo De Silvestri move north, with Antonio Mirante going in the other direction.

Lazio boss Delio Rossi would be happy to welcome the French international to his ranks, but there is one major obstacle.

The former Newcastle flop’s wages are well above the salary cap imposed by chief Claudio Lotito and they would require Juventus to help fund the switch.

Boumsong was brought to Turin by previous boss Didier Deschamps in the summer of 2006 after the club were demoted to Serie B for their part in Calciopoli.
